A pedestal table is a legless table so to speak. It sits on a pedestal that is centered in the middle of the table. Many times they are round although they can be rectangular or square. The beauty of them is that when they are part of a dinning set the chairs fit neatly underneath and there is much more leg room.
The legs of a table take up more space than a pedestal does. A lot of times, especially when floor space is at a premium the use of a pedestal table reduces the necessary floor space, and allows more chairs to be placed around it.

Sturdiness
They are very sturdy, because the center is supported well. Of course the floor is going to play a bit of a roll in how sturdy it will feel. If the floor is a bit lopsided just like with a conventional legged table, the table is sure to wobble. A pedestal table may have the advantage of having feet screwed into the bottom of the pedestal that can be adjusted. This will level out the table and prevent the wobble from side to side.
A pedestal table is a great addition to any room; it can be very versatile and give the users more leg room. They are usually quite pleasing to the eye and no more expensive than a traditional four legged style.
